Houston Mayor and other local leaders speak during an investigation into denial of Hurricane Harvey funding

HOUSTON – Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner will speak during an investigation into the Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) “initial refusal and unfair allocation of Hurricane Harvey mitigation dollars seized by Congress to the city of Houston”.

According to a press release, the investigation will be moderated by members of Congress from the Houston area, including Al Green, Sylvia Garcia and Sheila Jackson Lee.

In an earlier press conference, members of Congress urged the Texas GLO to “distribute damage control funds fairly to communities in the city of Houston and Harris Counties that are too frequently hit by flood disasters.”

During the investigation, Members of Congress will hold a Q&A with representatives from Houston and Harris Counties. According to the press release, a summary of the investigation will be sent to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the US House of Representatives Financial Services Committee.
